Faith on View Encourages artists and Educates the Church so that they can Engage our Culture.

We exist as a conduit between artists and the Church operating as both a support structure for artists and an educational tool for the Church. Historically, art has been dependent on the faith of its culture. The same is true today. The majority of contemporary art reflects the atheistic secular faith of our world. Yet, there remains a remnant of artists whose work, while contemporary, reflects their commitment to the God of the Bible. Sadly, The Church is largely unaware of these artists and their work. We seek to connect the two. Further, the visual arts have long been a bellwether of culture. With this in mind, Faith on View seeks to engage academia, intelligentsia and the arts as well as the cultural laity.

Encourage- Christian artists often find themselves between worlds. The Church does not understand what they do and the art world will not accept their spiritual point of view. Many times those called by God to a life in the arts are left in a position where they are not getting the support they need spiritually, financially or emotionally. Without the proper support many leave the vocation or ministry to which they have been called.
Educate- Because of the church's historic abdication of the visual arts, many in the church do not understand the important role that the fine arts play in our culture. Further, they are not aware of what exactly it is that Christian artists do or the philosophical and theological basis for it. The more the church is educated about art, especially that of Christians, the greater interest Christians will have in supporting godly art and the greater their burden will be for the affect art has on our culture. Further, youth who plan on pursuing a career in the arts will greatly benefit from a biblical understanding of the arts.
Engage-There is a tremendous need for the voice of born-again Christians in the arts community. The visual arts have largely been left to the unregenerate. As a result, we have seen an art world, and culture, that continues to degenerate. But, most importantly, every day there are souls that die without a personal relationship with their Creator. The 2001 census reported that there are over 2.5 million people in the various arts, counting nearly half a million visual artists and over 850,000 designers. Yet, we know of no other non-ecumenical Christian organization which seeks to engage this portion of our society. This voice is especially important in the capital of the art world, New York. Manhattan is the commercial and organizational heart of the multi-billion dollar art world with over 500 museums and galleries (over 20% of those found nationally) and an annual museum attendance of well over five million. Brooklyn boasts the world's largest concentration of artists. Williamsburg, a single neighborhood in Brooklyn, is home to an estimated 10,000 artists. Further, schools such as Columbia, Parson's, The School of Visual Arts, Hunter College, NYU and Pratt Institute are home to some of the nations premier art programs.

By God's grace, Faith on View seeks to develop a godly voice in a dark land. Faith on View seeks to create a presence in the nation's art scene both in the critical dialog and more importantly as a tool for evangelism. To do this, we must be active in creating exhibition opportunities for Christian Artists, including commercial opportunities. These opportunities may include exhibitions in secular and Christian Schools, churches, a dedicated gallery, and more. Further, Faith on View seeks to be diligent in both supporting Christian artists and educating the church about the visual arts, including the importance of the Christian artists' efforts.
